Oil painting and Colleen Johansen
I started oil painting in 2018, I am returning to an endeavor that I loved in my
teens. Bills, responsibility and life got in the way.
I paint now to capture the Pacific Northwest; the way it currently looks.
I feel that humans need open spaces. Paintings of trees, mountains,
oceans, big uninterrupted skies, fields, wildlife, farm life and flowers. All of these things can assist in renewing one's spirit.
Many people will never be able to visit or view these places in person.
Paintings, although will never take the place of the real thing, can bring
someone the feeling of being there.
I am continually working on my painting skills. Challenging myself to paint more difficult subjects is how I expand what I am able to do.
I am often asked 'what is your style'? I lean toward an impressionistic style, but still realist. Some call this modern impressionism. Once in a while, I let loose with
an abstract.
