Alchemy Arts Center Class – San Juan Island

Youth Environmental Art Program, Spring 2022, San Juan Island.

This spring, Alchemy Art Center is partnering with the San Juan Islands Youth Conservation Corps and the Madrona Institute to offer a FREE 10-week art and environmental stewardship program geared toward middle and high school age kids!

In this program, guest artists and speakers will share concepts and techniques that connect art and design with environmentalism.  During the first part of this program, students will meet weekly at Alchemy for group learning experiences addressing sense of place, creative reuse, effective messaging/design, and other topics.  During the second part of the program, students will design and execute an independent project using concepts and techniques they have learned.  Independent projects will be supported and guided by Alchemy Art Center staff.  The culmination of this program will be an exhibition in the Dome space of the completed independent projects.

In addition to class time at Alchemy, students will participate in three Saturday work parties each month, led by Youth Conservation Corps staff and local environmental organizations.  These work parties will give students the opportunity to connect further with the land and environment, through hands-on stewardship activities.

COST: Thanks to generous support from the Madrona Foundation, this program is being offered free of charge to all participants!
